17.05.2012 Nightswimmer New Album Getting Mastered in London

It’s been a LONG wait between albums for Nightswimmer, who has been busy with The Sound Movement and My Spiral Arm over the last 7 or 8 years. BUT the new opus (title TBA) is getting mastered in London Town now by mastering genius Colm O’Rourke, and should be available in June. It was partly written and recorded in London and partly in Melbourne and while having the trademark electronic dub washes it also moves into new territory. It has live trombone, dan tu, guitar and bass as well as vocals from regular Nightswimmer collaborator Mimi Turner (Iakovidis)

The first two Nightswimmer albums were critically lauded, check out some of the old press HERE and prepare yourself for the journey ahead. It is dark, full of imagery and heartbreak.

It’s been a transitional phase in the Shifting camp, lots of big news coming together for 2012, great releases, great bands and great anecdotes. Now branched across America, Europa and Oceania the deft fingers of Shifting Sounds are reaching far and wide in search of music to offer up for your audiological pleasure. In the coming 3 months we will be announcing new releases from Nightswimmer, The Gentlemen Rogues, Dead Twins, My Spiral Arm and definitely more TBA. Big news pending with one of our beloved bands but we won’t be mentioning anything til the hammer falls!!!

01.11.2011 The Sound Movement in the Studio

This Friday The Sound Movement hit the studio to begin recording the follow up to their debut album Ichi Go Ichi E which was released in 2006 in collaboration with Oxford label Truck Records. This also follows up the EP (now deleted) “Memory and the Human Heart” and the single “The Last Time ” which actually proved an omen when the band split in 2010. Having reconciled their differences, the founding members Kat Johnston and Andrew Day are ready to bounce back from challenging times in Tokyo, London and Manchester from 2004-2011 which included among other things all members of the band suffering some kind of serious injury, illness and/or hopitalisation, including a serious assault on guitarist/singer Andrew Day which put him out of action for a lengthy period at the end of 2008. In the pure “One Meeting, One Chance” spirit of the band, a chance meeting in Australia sees a new drummer stepping in, Bruce Aitken who has collaborated and played with artists as diverse as Ed Mann (Frank Zappa’s band) and Fred Eaglesmith. This is the first time Bruce has been involved in this type of sound so it proves to be a very interesting record indeed! More news as things progress…
